PHASE 1 - UNDERSTANDING KRINGLAN
- TASK 1 - FEELING
Exploring Kringlan
What does Kringlan really look like?
When thinking about Kringlan
GREY was our immediate first thought
We wanted to explore the area and see if there was anything more interesting than our first impression implied, something that would detach the GREY feeling from Kringlan in our minds
We realized that we have never actually seen Kringlan and wanted to find out what it really looks like
We made a little video of different parts of it to try to understand the building and became interested in the many different forms and shapes and would like to examine further

Kringlan könnuð
Hvernig lítur Kringlan út í raun?
Grátt var það fyrsta sem við sáum fyrir okkur þegar við hugsuðum um Kringluna
Okkur langaði að kanna svæðið og komast að því hvort það væri eitthvað áhugaverðara að finna þar, eitthvað til að brjótast út úr þessari gráu tilfinningu
Við áttuðum okkur á því að við gátum hvorugar séð fyrir okkur hvernig byggingin sjálf lítur út í raun og veru eða úr hvaða formum hún er gerð
Áhugi kviknaði þegar við fórum að skoða form byggingarinnar og hve mörg og ólík þau eru og útkoman varð því náin skoðun á formum og útliti Kringlunnar í formi video verks

Tíminn og vatnið
We want Kringlan area to be a healthy carbon negative space.
We want to try to regain a part of the wetlands that once was in the area. Wetlands are one of Iceland’s most crucial actions to fight climate change by capturing CO2 from the atmo- sphere. Greenery will also help with CO2 along with the wet- lands, and they will help maintain biodiversity in the area.
We want to repurpose most existing buildings in the area and materials from the small portion we need to tear down will be reused as much as possible and the rest recycled. All buld- ings will be adaptable for the future and made from environ- mentally friendly materials that capture CO2 from the air.
We want to minimize traffic in the area by putting the inter- section og Kringlumýrarbraut and Miklabraut underground and focusing on public transport. Thereby we are reducing air and noise pollution, the safety off the habitants and bet- ter connections to the other neighborhoods around.
We want healthy living spaces with green gardens where res- idents will be able to grow their own food and connect to nature in the middle of the city.
We want to create flexible public and private spaces with consideration for wind, sunlight and shadow formation.
We want to help empower the whole city, and hopefully the whole country, to make a change.
