MAPPING.

FEELING, Consumption.

My initial feeling of Kringlan was this unappreciation of the outdoor space. A kind of “non-place” where people just pass through it as anonymous individuals but do not relate or connect to their surroundings. A transitory place, in order to get somewhere else.

Only the nature seems really interested in it.

As this sort of “non-place” that Kringlan is I feel that it would perhaps be the first place to be abandoned by humans and overgrown by nature.

Walking around the area you see concrete with moss, grass growing on roofs and shopping carts widely disbursed. The shopping cart for me is a symbol for Kringlan and the area around it, as well as a symbol of our consumptions and the need to own everything.

Perhaps in the future we will need nature to take everything back and overcome the man made. Consume it.

PHASE 3 Designing Kringlan

Task 6: Shaping Politics
Task 7: Designing Concept
Task 8: Designing Politics

The Path
That Connect us Together

We are going to present to you our future vision of Kringlan area. We aim to create green and walkable spaces where people feel welcomed and where the Paths guide and connect people together. We wanted to answer the need of small and affordable housing in Reykjavik. By densifying the area and creating a good dynamic between the buildings, we aim to create a community where we involve various activities and public spaces. It will create attractions to the area, in which people will be able to work, live and enjoy several cultural activities. When designing our concept, we wanted to reduce our impact on the ground and keep as many green areas as possible. To reference to the history of the area we are regaining the wetland and trying to keep the actual biodiversity that will have the opportunity to grow. We emphasized the actual and future connections to the surrounding neighborhoods and the city that will be increased thanks to Borgarlinan.
