Ársel extention
The Ársel extention is situated right in the center of the developement project of Árbær. It is an addition to a vital part of Árbær’s educational facilities, the after school centre. A central point of the neighborhood’s childrens’ social life, where they come to play and relax with their friends after school and into the evening.
The preexisting facility is overcrowded and with increased growth of this neighborhood it is vital to ensure continuation of the important role this establishment plays in the young residents’ lives.
With the addition to Ársel it was also important to add some qualities to the local enviroment, creating a connection between people and strenghtening the sense of Árbær’s local community. Therefore the addition consists of:
- A workshop, where the children and other residents will be able to attend classes and use for their own creative desires, as well as being a flexible space to be used in various activities regarding the local community.
-A café, intended as a meeting point for small social activities necessary for residents’ wellbeing in their own local enviroment.
- An exhibition hall / auditorium, where children and residents can celebrate their culture and creativity at the neighborhood’s entrace to Elliðaárdalur.
The Ársel addition further defines Árbæjarskóli’s school yard and alongside Árbæjarkirkja and Árbæjarskóli it creates a focal pont of residents’ scocial lives, creating a sense of community and belonging in this exciting neighborhood.
