Task 1: Feeling

When I was exploring Elliðaárdalur I noticed many different things, but mainly the contrast between nature and man-made things. I thought that the man-made things were more overhelming. There was alwas a hint of it, if you couldn‘t see it, then you would hear it. I got the feeling that the place was trying to be something that it is not. My senses can not fully accept that it is true nature.

In my research I felt a lot of diversity, both in materials and value. Many systems intertweave together – f.x. route system and ecosystem. The place is constantly changing, both in the environment and how people choose to use it.

I photographed the area and the final result is this combination of photos and drawings. I focused on the contrast of the area between the man-made things and the nature. I observed what materials where there and how they had changed from external effects. The main nature elements that I found was vegetation, stones and water and that is the three main pictures behind the sketch paper. The drawings on the paper I worked out from photographs, and it is symbolic for the man-made things that I observed.

There is plenty of contrast in the work but you can find some similarities in it as well. That was something I discovered throughout the same time my work developed. Human influence will not be avoided but nature will always win in the end and take over everything that she wants.
